Born July 13, 1934 to Robert W. and Ola Mae Floyd, Jeff was 1 of 4 brothers. A native of New Mexico Jeff was raised by hardworking parents. His father was a ranch foreman for a cattle operation outside of Capitan, New Mexico. Ola owned and operated a postal office and mercantile in Artesia, New Mexico. 2 of Jeff’s brothers were taken at early ages. One was still born and the other died at the age of 10 or 12 from appendicitis.
Ola raised Jeff with a deep and abiding faith having started the mercantile with a single shelf of a few basic items she insisted they trust God to bless their efforts. Eventually the store was sold for many times its original worth.
